Patrick’s military record showed that he was born in Roscommon. Following the abortive search (see ‘Off in the wrong direction’) I made another request for a search to be made for Patrick’s birth certificate. The search criteria were: Patrick Stanley, son of John, born in Roscommon, date of birth 2nd March, year of birth 1882-1885. The range of years allows for the uncertainty on his age for which he was largely responsible.
This time they found a record that met all of the criteria and not just some of them. The year was 1883. This begs the question why it was not discovered the first time around.
The birth certificate told me the exact place of birth (Cams, Fuerty) and his mother’s name (Bridget). The research could start in earnest!
